METHOD AND DEMANDS ON PARTICIPANTS – SELECTION SURVEY:

The survey is designed in the form of an electronic questionnaire either asked verbally of or electronically completed by senior personnel in either manufacturing or 3PL organisations and will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Data collected will be matched against data completed from other organisations to select the most suitable companies for participation in the case study component of this research. As a result of completing the survey, data will be obtained about the demographic profile of companies from a global, regional and local perspective. The data collected, while not anonymous, will be used only for initial selection and comparison and will not be published in such a way that you or your organisation can be identified. All data will be aggregated to ensure anonymity and no other identifying information will be used in the event of any work being published in academic journal articles for the advancement of knowledge.

PARTICIPATION IN CASE STUDY:

As part of the study a core group (3-4) of companies will be selected to form the basis of a case study in to the influences of national culture on 3PL outsourcing decision making and implementation. If you are interested in your organisation being a member of the core group, you will be given an opportunity to nominate yourself at the end of the questionnaire.

You and your organisation’s involvement in the core group case study is voluntary and you are under no obligation to nominate to be a part of this group, or to participate.

If you are interested in being a part of this group, your name and contact details must be provided so that a researcher may contact you. These details will be keep confidential and will not be shared in any publication or other way. A separate Participant Information Sheet will be provided to core group members.

If there are more than 3-4 people interested in being part of the core group, members will be selected based on demographic information provided in this survey.

POSSIBLE RISKS, INCONVENIENCES AND DISCOMFORTS:
Apart from the 10 minutes of your time for the survey, and any time spent in looking up the information requested, we can foresee no risks for you. Your involvement in the study is voluntary and you may withdraw your participation from the study at any time and withdraw any data that you have provided to that point. Refusal to participate in the study will not affect your relationship with the University of Wollongong.

FUNDING AND BENEFITS OF THE RESEARCH:
This research will provide insight into one of the areas within business outsourcing where relationships fail, and that organisations utilising 3PL services will develop strategies for managing the effect of culture and lead to success in the relationships established. Findings from this study will be published in a thesis and possibly published in industry and academic journals. We will not use your name and the organisation will not be identified in any part of the research.
